What's New

Phase Two of James P. Orr Memorial Garden Completed

Mr. James P. Orr was an integral part of CCAT and was a long-time advocate for addiction treatment. Most notably, Mr. Orr donated his time and talents to help CCAT expand its services by renovating our current location on Ezzard Charles Drive. The renovations he enabled made CCAT a more therapeutic and nurturing environment, thus enhancing treatment for all the patients we serve.

Mr. Orr passed away in the summer of 2006, leaving behind a loving family who want to continue his legacy of giving and supporting those in recovery. It is only appropriate that CCAT honor his tremendous work by dedicating our new garden to him.

The James P. Orr Memorial Recovery Garden

Although CCAT is situated on a 3-1/2 acre campus, much of the outdoor space was not conducive to private conversations or patients who wish to quietly reflect upon their recovery. Reflection and personal meditation are key components to successful recovery. During Mr. Orr’s personal recovery from alcoholism, his wife noted how he valued time outdoors to walk and reflect on his journey to sobriety. The James P. Orr Memorial Recovery Garden brings the peace that Mr. Orr found outdoors to our patients.

Phase Two included the completion of the rest of the garden, including landscaping, planting new flowers and trees, removing the current brick pathways which have become uneven, and repaving the courtyard area.  Thanks to some generous donations, we built a gazebo with benches where individual counseling or small group therapy can occur during warmer months. The new gazebo was christened the "Marianne 'Babe' Orr-Christensen Memorial Gazebo" in memory of Jim's sister Babe who was also instrumental in our efforts to complete the garden before her passing a few years ago.

We thank everyone involved in this project over the years and invite you to visit CCAT and enjoy this lovely space along with our patients and staff!
